We hear a lot about how important it is to “socialize” puppies.   That’s a term that has a number of different meanings but for our purposes here, we’re going to say it means getting your dog out and about to safely interact and have fun with other dogs, people, and maybe even other animals – cats and horses for example.

No matter how old your dog is, she can still benefit from regular socialization experiences. The need to practice getting along well well with others doesn’t end at puppyhood but instead should continue throughout life.

This tip helps you discover how to prevent your dog from becoming grumpy or fearful of unfamiliar people and animals. This is an extremely important topic because if your dog is uncomfortable and uncertain around unfamiliar individuals, it’s much more likely she could bite.  So turn up your speakers and listen carefully.

We have an in-depth webinar about socialization and the scientific knowledge behind it available for Professional Members of Behavior Education Network.  If you are a pet behavior professional, or want to be take a look at what BEN has to offer!
